Job summary

The Seattle Art Museum (SAM) seeks a Payroll Manager and Administrator to oversee biweekly payroll processing for 350+ employees, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and manage reports for pension and retirement plans. The role partners with People & Culture, Finance, and external vendors to maintain data integrity and strong internal controls in Paylocity.

Ideal candidates have a BA in accounting and 5–7 years of payroll experience, including payroll reconciliations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five to seven years of payroll and accounting experience with increasing responsibilities.
• Experience in payroll compliance, wage and hour laws, and payroll reconciliations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and build relationships with executives and employees.
• Proficiency with Excel for payroll reporting and analytics.
• Experience with Paylocity and other payroll systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer and process payroll accurately for 350+ employees on a biweekly schedule.
• Own the payroll process and be the knowledge expert on employee/payroll policies.
• Review payroll data for earnings, deductions, taxes, and accruals; ensure accuracy.
• Support timekeeping, leaves, and benefits coordination; reconcile reports.
• Assist with audits, reporting, and payroll-related financial analysis.
• Maintain payroll data integrity in Paylocity and improve workflows.
