Job summary

Welch's is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead accurate, timely payroll for a multi-state workforce, including union and non-union employees. The role reports to the Director of People & Operations and oversees a payroll team, ensuring compliance across locations.

Based at Welch's Waltham, MA headquarters, this hybrid role combines hands-on leadership with process improvements, controls, and scalable systems for payroll operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience including leadership of payroll operations.
• Experience managing multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees; manufacturing and union payroll experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end payroll processes across multiple states and locations.
• Ensure payroll accuracy, on-time payments, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Develop and coach the payroll team and collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal, Benefits, and plant leadership.
• Own payroll tax compliance, audits, and HRIS/timekeeping system testing and improvements.
• Monitor data quality, resolve issues, and support month-/quarter-/year-end close activities.
