Job summary

Paleovalley and Wild Pastures are seeking a Senior Payroll & Compensation Specialist to own payroll operations and contribute to ongoing compensation programs. You will partner with the Director of HR to benchmark jobs, shape salary structures, and manage multi-state payroll compliance.

This role is a hands-on senior individual contributor position supporting a remote U.S. workforce across multiple states, with opportunities to deepen expertise in compensation analytics and pay programs.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on, end-to-end payroll experience across multi-state U.S. workforce.
• Meaningful experience supporting compensation processes: benchmarking, pricing, ranges, or annual cycles.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll requirements and year-end reporting.

Responsibilities

• Own and process regular, off-cycle, and final payrolls for 20+ states in Rippling.
• Audit payroll inputs, deductions, garnishments, and reimbursements for accuracy.
• Manage international contractor setup/payments and resolve issues.
• Serve as primary payroll contact and resolve pay, withholding, and payroll questions.
• Maintain up-to-date payroll compliance knowledge and registrations across jurisdictions.
• Lead internal payroll workflows, controls, documentation, and system configurations.
• Support compensation framework with job levels, salary ranges, and geographic pay practices.
• Benchmark roles using Payscale and market data to guide compensation recommendations.
• Support annual compensation cycles and data preparation for reviews.
• Prepare payroll reconciliations and audit-ready documentation.
• Identify and address recurring payroll or compensation gaps and implement improvements.
