Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll/Admin for a direct hire opportunity in Petaluma, CA, supporting growing California operations within the construction, industrial facilities, and infrastructure sector. This Senior Payroll and HR Administrator role is ideal for a detail-driven payroll professional with strong California union payroll expertise and hands-on Paylocity experience. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with field operations, dispatch, leadership, and HR in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The role is critical to payroll accuracy, labor compliance, employee support, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities

• Manage high-volume California union payroll in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, wage classifications, overtime rules, shift premiums, and fringe benefit requirements.
• Ensure compliance with California wage and hour regulations, payroll tax requirements, certified payroll reporting, and prevailing wage obligations.
• Reconcile payroll data with job costing, field records, timekeeping information, and payroll reporting requirements.
• Support employee onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, HR record maintenance, and payroll-related employee inquiries.
• Partner with field operations, dispatch, HR, and leadership to resolve payroll issues and support accurate, timely processing.
• Assist with union audits, regulatory reporting, compliance documentation, and payroll records management.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $75,000 to $90,000 per year.
• Job type: Direct hire.
• Location: Petaluma, CA.
• For temporary assignments lasting 13 weeks or longer, AppleOne is pleased to offer major medical, dental, vision, 401k and any statutory sick pay where required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Manage high-volume union payroll for a California-based field or construction workforce.
• Interpret collective bargaining agreements, union wage classifications, overtime rules, shift premiums, and fringe benefits.
• Prepare and maintain certified payroll, prevailing wage documentation, payroll tax compliance records, and union reporting.
• Reconcile payroll with job costing and operational records to support accurate labor cost tracking.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on California union payroll experience.
• Strong proficiency with Paylocity is required.
• Thorough understanding of California wage and hour laws, union payroll rules, certified payroll, fringe benefits, and payroll reporting requirements.
• Experience supporting payroll for field-based, construction, infrastructure, or multi-location workforces.
• Ability to interpret complex union agreements and apply payroll rules accurately.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage confidential employee information.
• Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment with field teams, operations, dispatch, HR, and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in traffic control, construction, infrastructure services, industrial facilities, or related field operations.
• Prevailing wage reporting experience.
• Experience supporting multi-location California operations.
• Certified Payroll Professional, CPP, designation is a plus.
