Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Full-Time Senior Patient Care Technician to join the Resource Pool on-site in Pittsburgh. Shifts total 36 hours per week with rotating schedules, including weekends, overnights and holidays.

Compensation includes a base rate with a 10% bonus while active in the pool. Position starts at the Patient Care Technician Senior level; title and pay are determined by qualifications, experience, and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of healthcare experience, or one year plus a relevant program with clinical rotation.
• One year of healthcare experience with a health sciences bachelor’s degree.
• Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training.
• Completion of basic information systems training.
• Basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Annual professional contribution (assigned after hire).
• May transport medications between departments; transport only.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring
• Perform core PCT competencies: vital signs, ECGs, telemetry, collation of specimens and related tasks
• Assist with unit and patient needs, including transport of cardiac monitored patients
• Maintain a safe, clean environment following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care and clerical functions as needed
• Support unit operations and participate in quality initiatives and department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and the healthcare team
• Demonstrate professionalism and ownership of assignments
• Provide patient and family education under RN direction and respond to emergent situations
