Job summary

Sanford Health in Fargo seeks a Senior Patient Access Representative to serve as a liaison among patients, families, physicians and medical staff. This role supports scheduling, registration and front desk operations across the care continuum.

You will review orders, manage provider schedules, assist with prior authorizations, and mentor new staff while maintaining confidentiality and using EMR systems to ensure accurate patient information and streamlined access to care.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology; customer service skills essential.
• Six months' customer service experience desired.
• Prior EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure medical services are scheduled appropriately.
• Reviews procedure/surgery orders and schedules resources to perform the procedure.
• Manages provider schedules and resolves conflicts.
• Acts as liaison between providers and supporting staff.
• May perform registration duties and front desk work.
• Assists with prior authorizations when needed.
• May train and mentor new employees and serve as EMR super user.
• Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates professionalism.

Position Overview

The Senior Patient Access Representative serves as a liaison between patients, families, physicians and medical support staff.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with multi‑disciplinary team to ensure medical services are appropriately scheduled for patient.
• Requires depth of knowledge of service line to proficiently review procedure/surgery orders, as well as appropriately schedule all necessary resources to perform the procedure/surgery.
• Responsible for resource management and resolving conflicts.
• Serves as a liaison between provider and supporting providers.
• Manages provider schedules.
• May collaborate with patients and providers to demonstrate medical necessity to insurance companies and obtain required prior authorization.
• May perform registration duties and work the front desk.
• May train and mentor new employees.
• May serve as an electronic medical record (EMR) super user.
• Displays professionalism and promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation.
• Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Must always maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Uses problem solving and critical thinking skills to resolve issues and seeks guidance from leadership when appropriate.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in computer skills and use of multi‑line telephone.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; post‑secondary education helpful.
• Previous medical office experience preferred.
• Prior electronic medical records (EMR) experience is preferred.
• Must have knowledge of medical terminology; customer service skills essential.
• Six months' customer service experience desired.
