Job summary

ScienBiziP, P.C., a Los Angeles intellectual property boutique, seeks an experienced IP litigation associate to handle patent and other IP disputes in federal courts nationwide, with direct client interaction, including Asia-based technology companies.

You will manage day-to-day litigation, draft and argue motions, take depositions, coordinate discovery, supervise junior staff, and pursue first-chair opportunities. The firm offers a hybrid schedule in downtown LA and a clear path to partnership.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active California bar membership (or admitted in another state and able to sit for the California Bar Examination promptly)
• 3+ years of patent or IP litigation experience in federal district court
• Demonstrated deposition and motion-practice experience — you have taken depositions and written briefs filed under your name
• Strong writing under deadline pressure; able to own a brief from outline to filing
• Comfortable managing multiple cases with significant autonomy

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day litigation of patent and other IP cases in federal district court, including case strategy, scheduling, and coordination with local and co-counsel
• Draft and argue substantive motions — dismissal, transfer/joinder, TRO/preliminary injunction, discovery motions, claim construction briefing, and summary judgment
• Take and defend fact and expert depositions
• Direct fact and expert discovery, including e-discovery vendors and technical experts
• Prepare invalidity/infringement contentions and work with experts on reports
• Communicate directly with clients, including in-house teams at Asia-based technology companies; help manage case budgets and reporting
• Second-chair hearings, Markman arguments, and trials, with first-chair opportunities as earned
• Supervise and develop junior associates and staff

ScienBiziP, P.C. is a Los Angeles intellectual property boutique serving technology companies across the United States and Asia. Our litigation practice spans patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes in federal courts nationwide, with a heavy Central District of California docket that includes TRO/preliminary injunction practice, e-commerce enforcement, and full-scale patent cases through trial. Attorneys here run their own matters early, work directly with clients, and get courtroom and deposition experience years ahead of the big-firm track.

Preferred Qualifications

• Central District of California experience

• Experience with e-commerce/marketplace enforcement (Amazon APEX, TRO asset-freeze practice) or ITC Section 337
• Trial experience in any capacity

• Base salary: $175,000–$230,000, depending on experience, patent bar registration, and technical background
• Discretionary annual bonus tied to hours, contribution, and firm performance
• 1,750 annual billable hour target
• Hybrid schedule (3 days per week in our downtown Los Angeles office)
