Job summary

Bristol Myers Squibb Company in Princeton, NJ, seeks an experienced patent attorney or agent to join our Innovation Law team. You will support strategic IP counsel across functions, managing patent portfolios and advising on FTO, licenses, and collaboration agreements, with collaboration across R&D, regulatory, and business teams.

The role emphasizes internal prosecution, business development diligence, and cross-functional client counseling in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and admission to at least one state bar are preferred.
• 10+ years of patent law experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences. An advanced degree and/or scientific research experience is preferred.
• Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting, filing, and responding to office actions globally.
• Provide comprehensive program counseling to various functional areas.
• Develop and implement advanced IP strategies to protect BMS’s innovations.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration with R&D, regulatory, commercial and other departments.
• Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and advise on patentability and infringement issues.
• Manage patent portfolios and landscape analyses to protect innovations.
