Job summary

The City of St. Joseph is seeking a Senior Work Leader to supervise park maintenance crews and assign daily tasks across the city’s parks and facilities.

You will oversee in-progress work, provide coaching and instruction, and ensure safety and efficiency of operations, including equipment usage. The role requires a high school diploma and CDL eligibility, with a focus on leadership and reliability.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of prior experience required to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) required or must have the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
• Must attend a work release supervisor training class annually.
• Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the general public.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of department rules and regulations.
• Working knowledge of operation of computers, iPad, and other electronic devices.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the mowing, trimming and general maintenance of the park system, including all parks, amenities, and facilities within the system.
• Oversees work in progress and assists as needed. Provides instructions regarding work methods.
• Discusses daily assignments with Superintendent of Parks and assigns and schedules work and duties of designated crews.
• Assists, collaborates with supervisors on special city sponsored events and projects. Remains on call during various city sponsored events involving the park system.
• Oversees, inspects, allocates, trains employees on operation of equipment for various projects to ensure proper safety and usage is maintained.
• Assists in evaluating and disciplining employees.
