Job description

Position(s) I am Applying for

Senior Paralegal, IP Litigation

Steptoe LLP is seeking a Senior Paralegal to support and collaborate with lawyers in the Intellectual Property group. The role involves managing complex IP cases in Federal courts and before agencies, including case preparation, document management, legal research, and trial support.

Essential Functions
  1. Case Management:
    • Collaborate with lawyers to manage litigation cases from start to finish.
    • Maintain and update case files and manage case timelines and deadlines.
    • Coordinate with external parties such as clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel.
    • Experience with state and federal e-filing platforms preferred.
  2. Legal Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct legal research using Westlaw, LEXIS, PACER, etc.
    • Analyze legal issues, court rules, and case law to support strategies.
    • Summarize research findings for attorneys.
  3. Document Management:
    • Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents.
    • Bluebook and cite check briefs, prepare tables of authorities.
    • Assist with court document filings and maintain electronic document databases.
  4. Discovery and Investigation:
    • Assist with discovery requests and document productions.
    • Manage large volumes of data using automated eDiscovery systems.
    • Conduct investigations, including witness interviews and evidence gathering.
  5. Trial Support:
    • Assist in trial preparation and attendance.
    • Organize trial exhibits and witness lists.
    • Provide onsite support during trials.
  6. Time Recording:
    • Record time daily in the firm's system.
    • Meet or exceed billing hour requirements.
Nonessential Functions
  • Provide backup coverage for other paralegals.
  • Assist with pro bono and business development projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved school preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience required.

Work Environment
  • Office hours 9:00 - 5:30, Monday through Friday, with potential for hybrid work.

Salary & Benefits

The anticipated base salary is $105,000 - $120,000, dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), profit-sharing, paid time off, and wellness programs.
