Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Sr Paralegal - Trial Division to support complex civil litigation. The role handles discovery, pre-trial activities, and trial preparation under attorney supervision, with potential mentorship of junior staff.

The candidate should have substantial paralegal experience, strong research and communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software. Travel and overtime may apply.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance or related area preferred.
• Certification in paralegal studies preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted.
• Typically four years as a paralegal with proven performance.
• Knowledge of civil litigation procedures and legal research.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage filing systems.

Responsibilities

• Reviews office files and handles routine correspondence; conducts legal research and case progression activities.
• Drafts discovery requests, pleadings, and subpoenas for attorney review.
• Obtains, compiles and analyzes records for discovery and medical records.
• Prepares experts and witnesses and coordinates pre-trial/trial activities.
• Summarizes depositions and indexes materials after discovery.
• Drafts jury instructions and issues subpoenas as needed.
• Coordinates interviews and meetings with clients and witnesses.
• Arranges medical and expert witnesses and schedules their appearances.
• Performs other duties as assigned by attorneys.
