Job summary

Maximus is seeking a Senior Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and sustain firewall and load balancer solutions in a high-security DoD environment. The role requires deep expertise in Palo Alto technologies and active TS/SCI clearance, with a focus on improving security posture and system reliability.

The position is on-site in Arlington, VA, five days a week, and involves collaboration with DoD and intelligence community customers to shape enterprise security architecture and modernization

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance required.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ or equivalent).
• Deep knowledge of Windows services (Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, etc.).
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify and remediate firewall misconfigurations and security gaps to improve posture.
• Provide Tier 3 support to network operations for firewall/load balancer issues.
• Maintain hardware and software to vendor-supported levels.
• Support Continuity of Operations (COOP) requirements.
• Conduct regular firewall assessments and develop improvement reports.
• Develop and support performance/traffic utilization reports for network devices.
