Job summary

Northern-Technologies-Group seeks a Senior Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and maintain complex firewall solutions across DoD networks. The role is based on-site at the Pentagon, with travel up to 10% and shift details determined by location.

The ideal candidate has advanced experience with Cisco ASA/Firepower, Juniper SRX, and Palo Alto, plus a DoD security background and active clearance. You will lead a firewall team and ensure timely, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years in security or firewall engineering.
• 3+ years firewall experience within a DoD environment.
• Experience leading a firewall team and enforcing policies.
• Knowledge of perimeter/internal firewall deployment (physical/virtual).
• DoD Top Secret clearance; TS/SCI preferred; IAT II cert; Juniper/Cisco/Palo Alto certs.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage firewall solutions using Cisco ASA/Firepower, Juniper SRX, and Palo Alto technologies.
• Monitor firewall performance and security logs to identify threats and mitigate risk.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce network security policies and procedures.
• Audit systems to ensure compliance with standards, requirements, and regulations.
• Collaborate with IT, security, and network teams to integrate firewall solutions across the environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve firewall issues; document actions in ticketing systems.
• Maintain and update firewall configurations and ACLs via Change Management approvals.
• Serve as focal point for all firewall tasks, operations, projects, and assessments.
• Ensure timely delivery of assigned firewall tasks and reporting to leadership.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to firewall personnel.
• Develop and execute continuous service improvement strategies for operations and projects.
