Job summary

IPG in Schaumburg, IL, seeks a Senior Machine Design Engineer to lead development of custom packaging machinery, from concept through release for manufacturing. You will own complex designs, coordinate across engineering and operations, and deliver machines on aggressive schedules.

The role requires 7+ years of experience, advanced 3D CAD skills, and hands-on ability with drawings, BOMs, and fabrication processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of machine design experience.
• Advanced 3D CAD proficiency.
• Experience producing production drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
• Strong understanding of machine design principles including: Power Transmission, Servo-driven Motion, Pneumatics, DFM, Timing, and Kinematics.
• Experience designing packaging machinery such as Cartoners, Case packers, Palletizers, and Robotic packaging systems preferred.
• Experience with commissioning and field installations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; familiar with machining, fabrication, welding and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

• Machine design and development of custom packaging machinery.
• Create and validate machine concepts through timing studies, motion analysis, and engineering calculations.
• Design complete machine assemblies and generate production drawings and BOMs.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable, serviceable, reliable, and cost-efficient.
• Own engineering execution for assigned projects from concept through release.
• Deliver complete drawing and documentation packages for procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, installation, and service.
• Coordinate with Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Assembly, Controls, Purchasing, Service, and Field Installation.
• Support machine build, testing, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
