SENIOR PACKAGING ENGINEER
We are hiring a senior-level Packaging Engineer to lead the design, validation, and implementation of packaging solutions for HVAC coils. This role is critical to enabling damage‑free transportation by engineering packaging solutions that withstand real‑world handling, cross‑docking, forklift interaction, vibration, and edge impact. The engineer will serve as the primary authority for solving packaging‑related freight damage and establishing scalable packaging standards.
LOCATION: On-site Richardson, TX. Must be able to Travel 50% domestic plus Mexico
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer custom crating, skids, frames, and internal restraint systems
- Develop packaging designs capable of surviving LTL, cross‑docking transportation environments
- Serve as the lead problem solver for packaging‑related freight damage using data, field observations, and root cause analysis
- Translate damage failure modes into engineered corrective actions
- Define packaging load paths, blocking and bracing strategies, base protection, and forklift entry requirements
- Create packaging standards, material specifications, and build instructions
- Ensure packaging designs are repeatable, scalable, and suitable for internal execution
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with internal and external resources
- Support pilot builds, field validation, and phased rollout of new packaging solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in packaging engineering, transport packaging, or heavy‑duty industrial packaging
- Demonstrated experience designing packaging for oversized, heavy, or fragile products
- Hands‑on experience engineering packaging for LTL or multi‑touch transportation networks
- Strong understanding of load paths, restraint systems, shock, vibration, and edge impact risks
- Ability to translate field failures into engineered, scalable solutions
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) or Packaging Dynamics Professional (ISTA PDP) strongly preferred.
- Experience packaging HVAC components, coils, or similar industrial assemblies
Work Arrangement
- On‑site presence at the Richardson, TX office. Must be able to travel 50%+ to domestic manufacturing locations as well as Mexico.
- Contract Duration – 6‑month contract to lead assessment, engineer solutions, pilot validation, and standardization efforts, with potential extension based on business needs and results.
