Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking a Senior Structural Designer to lead packaging design from concept to completion. You will gather project data from sales, PMs and customers, create CAD designs, and develop prototypes for customer approval.

Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure producibility, document design intent with sketches and drawings, and mentor peers while coordinating graphic elements for production-ready packaging.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Packaging Design, or related program with emphasis on 3D development.
• 8+ years of packaging and/or product design experience.
• Familiarity with retailer specifications, print production, and manufacturing process.
• Expertise with corrugated plant equipment and tools (e.g. die cutters, Evol flexo folder gluers).
• Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Creative thinking with ability to convey ideas via sketches.
• Experience with Artios and 3D software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Gather project data from customers, sales, and PMs to define design requirements.
• Translate requirements to conceptual packaging designs that meet customer needs.
• Produce design documentation: concept sketches, technical drawings, and illustrations.
• Ensure designs are manufacturable by collaborating with manufacturing teams.
• Lead design overviews and respond to customer questions on product design.
• Manage multiple projects, track hours and resources, meet milestones.
• Serve as primary design contact with customers and account managers.
