Job summary

Great American Insurance Group in Shaker Heights, OH is seeking an Underwriting Specialist or Senior Underwriting Specialist to underwrite new and renewal business for financial institutions. The role is based in our Shaker Heights office with on-site four days a week and one day remote.

You will evaluate risk, develop pricing and terms, maintain documentation, and communicate strategies to internal teams and brokers. Travel about 10% and mentor junior staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, liberal arts, or related discipline.
• Generally, 10 years of underwriting Commercial P&C experience.
• P&C license preferred; must obtain within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to travel about 10% of the time.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites new and renewal business for financial institutions per guidelines.
• Develops risk assessment models for coverage, pricing, and terms.
• Communicates underwriting strategies to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
• Maintains documentation and compliance with regulations.
• Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external customers.
• Mentors staff and participates in talent decisions when applicable.
