Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, MN is seeking a Senior Outpatient Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding for complex outpatient encounters, collaborating with clinicians to support complete documentation and proper charges.

Requires completion of a coding program, two years of hospital outpatient coding experience, and AHIMA or AAPC credentials; Epic, 3M Encoder, and Computer Assisted Coding experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Completed coding program with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
• Two years hospital outpatient coding experience

Responsibilities

• Evaluate health record documentation for accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding
• Identify documentation gaps and initiate coding queries
• Review LCD/NCD policies for medical necessity
• Collaborate with the denials team for education
• Ensure timely and accurate outpatient account coding
• Maintain coding quality and productivity (target 95%+)
• Assist with training outpatient coders
