Job summary

Nextlink, based in Hudson Oaks, Texas, is seeking a senior engineering leader to design and manage its in‑house fiber design and engineering function. You will oversee designers, field engineers, and contracted resources to ensure compliant, constructible designs ready for permitting.

You will partner with executives to set strategy, prioritize staffing, and implement repeatable processes that scale with network expansion.

Qualifications

• Experience leading outside plant (OSP) fiber design teams.
• Proven ability to build, scale, or restructure technical teams.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience managing contracted engineering resources and in‑house staff.
• Ability to coordinate with leadership, vendors, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and growth of Nextlink’s internal fiber design and engineering team.
• Establish design workflows, engineering standards, and best practices.
• Partner with leadership to identify staffing needs and team structure requirements.
• Mentor in‑house designers and field engineers; set expectations and accountability.
• Coordinate with construction, network engineering, and operations for efficient field execution.
• Review and approve fiber designs for permitting and compliance.
• Manage third‑party engineering vendors and address performance issues.
• Collaborate on fiber route planning and long‑term infrastructure development.
