Senior Organizing Coordinator — Higher Ed Campaigns

Job summary

The American Association of University Professors is seeking an Organizing Coordinator to advance campaigns nationwide, support organizers, and help move the organization toward greater member engagement.

This role involves extensive travel across the United States, mentoring staff, developing campaign goals, and ensuring compliance with labor laws while building strong relationships with faculty and workers.

Qualifications

• 12 or more years of union organizing experience, including at least five (5) years leading successful organizing campaigns.
• Experience leading organizing campaigns involving bargaining units of 500 or more workers.
• Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing organizers and campaign staff.
• Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, and meeting management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, identify, and develop workplace leaders.
• Experience using campaign data and metrics to evaluate progress and inform organizing strategy.
• Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to perform with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
• Ability to pivot and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Oversee NLRB elections, state employee elections, and develop campaign strategies.
• Mentor and develop organizers by providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development to strengthen organizing skills and leadership capacity.
• Build and develop effective organizing teams by identifying, recruiting, and cultivating workplace leaders.
• Partner with organizers to establish campaign goals, metrics, and data-driven strategies that assess progress and inform organizing priorities.
• Utilize membership databases and standard office software to support campaign planning, tracking, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state labor laws related to higher education organizing.
• Build strong relationships with faculty, workers, and other stakeholders to advance organizing campaigns in higher education.
• Other duties as assigned.
