Summary
We are seeking a Senior Organic Chemist/Scientist III with extensive experience in organic synthesis within a manufacturing or research laboratory environment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in reaction optimization, chemistry process troubleshooting, and execution of established department chemistry processes. This is a hands-on bench chemistry role requiring the ability to independently develop work plans and synthesis procedures and perform multi-step organic synthesis from 100 mg to 500 g scale. As a senior member of the team, the candidate will apply technical expertise, experience, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to support safety, quality, delivery, and overall business objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform multi-step organic synthesis from 100 mg to 500 g scale and execute complex chemical processes and procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Optimize reactions and troubleshoot chemistry and process-related issues using sound scientific judgment and established department processes.
- Review historical manufacturing records and analyze and interpret scientific data to determine the appropriate processes required to successfully execute current manufacturing work orders.
- Collaborate with senior staff and supervisors to identify and resolve process issues and support successful manufacturing execution.
- Develop individual weekly work plans and coordinate team resources to ensure assigned work is completed on schedule and meets expected quality and technical requirements.
- Follow established manufacturing schedules and complete assigned activities within required timelines, with flexibility to support overtime and occasional weekend work based on customer demand.
- Maintain the highest standards of personal and co-worker safety while following all department policies and procedures related to process equipment, chemical handling, laboratory operations, and waste disposal.
- Contribute technical knowledge and experience to support and strengthen the team's safety culture.
- Develop and document synthetic procedures accurately, clearly, and concisely.
- Work effectively with peers, senior staff, and leadership to achieve team and business objectives.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Organic Chemistry with 5+ years of applicable experience required; PhD in Organic Chemistry with 2+ years of applicable experience preferred. Applicable experience may be gained in a manufacturing or academic research laboratory.
- Extensive hands-on experience in organic synthesis, including synthesis, isolation, purification, and characterization of organic compounds.
- Strong experience with reaction optimization and chemistry process troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated proficiency with rigorous air- and moisture-free chemistry techniques.
- Experience with advanced chromatography and analytical methods used to monitor reactions, troubleshoot processes, and assess product quality.
- Strong bench chemistry and synthetic skills with the ability to execute complex, multi-step organic synthesis.
- Ability to independently develop work plans, prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-centered environment.
- Ability to communicate constructively with peers and leadership and demonstrate strong senior-level people and leadership skills.

- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to accurately and succinctly document synthetic procedures and technical information.

- The role requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform physical laboratory activities for extended periods.
