Qualifications

Job description

Our client is preparing a past-producing operation for a potential restart, and the geology team sits right at the center of how well that goes. Ore control is where the plan meets the muck pile, and this role owns it.

As Senior Ore Control Geologist, you’ll lead the ore control group and run grade control from the drill to the mill. Accurate ore and waste boundaries. Clean sampling and solid data. Short-term models people can trust. Honest reconciliation when the numbers don’t match. That’s what keeps recovery up, dilution down, and production decisions grounded in something real.

You’ll work daily with Mining, Processing, Survey, and Technical Services, and you’ll build and mentor the geologists and technicians around you.

What You’ll Do

• Safety and Compliance: Follow and promote our client’s safety policies, values, and standards.
• Keep ore control and grade control programs aligned with applicable environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
• Ore and Grade Control: Lead the daily ore control team and activities so ore comes out safely and efficiently.
• Supervise ore control programs, delivering accurate ore and waste boundaries, ore polygons, and dig plans that get the most out of the resource.
• Supervise grade control programs, monitoring ore loss and dilution through the mining process.
• Complete geological mapping, logging, sampling, and interpretation of production faces, blast holes, and underground headings.
• Identify structures, mineralization, alteration, and lithological boundaries that could affect mining operations.
• Drilling, Sampling and Data Quality: Manage ore control drilling so coverage stays a full 12 months ahead of mining.
• Manage and optimize ore control drilling and sampling programs.
• Validate sampling quality, data integrity, and laboratory turnaround times.
• Maintain QA/QC standards for sampling, logging, and database management.
• Keep production geological databases accurate, complete, and up to date.
• Modeling and Reconciliation: Interpret assay results, mapping, and logging, and update geological models accordingly.
• Update short-term geological and block models along with stockpile inventories.
• Run daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation between short‑range plans and actual production.
• Investigate reconciliation variances and recommend corrective actions.
• Support resource model validation with continuous production feedback.
• Planning and Collaboration: Work closely with Mine Planning, Geotech, Mine Operations, and Process teams to optimize production schedules.
• Provide geological input into short‑term and medium‑term mine planning.
• Flag geological risks and opportunities that could affect production.
• Take part in daily production meetings and planning discussions.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly geological and production reports.
• Team Leadership: Manage team performance, coaching, and career development.

What You Bring

• Education Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Professional registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Professional Geologist (P.Geo., RPGeo, CP, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
• Experience 8 to 10 years of practical geology experience in the mining industry.
• At least 5 years of production geology experience at a producing mine.
• Open pit or underground experience. Both is even better.
• Hands‑on experience with grade control, ore control, geological modelling, and reconciliation.
• Experience supervising or mentoring geological personnel.A track record of working well with mining, engineering, metallurgy, and technical services teams.
• Key Skills Strong understanding of mineralization styles and structural geology.
• Expertise in grade control methodologies and sampling practices.
• Working knowledge of geological modelling and mine planning software such as Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac, MineSight, or Deswik.
• Proficiency with GIS, database management systems, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Sharp analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
• Clear verbal and written communication.
• Comfort prioritizing several tasks at once in a fast‑moving mine environment.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and team development instincts.
• High attention to detail and a real commitment to data quality and accuracy.
