Job description

About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Senior Ore Control Geologist is responsible for providing geological leadership and technical expertise to support safe, efficient, and profitable gold production. This role ensures accurate ore definition, grade control, geological interpretation, reconciliation, and short-term mine planning to maximize ore recovery while minimizing dilution and ore loss. Working closely with Mining, Processing, Survey, and Technical Services teams, the Senior Ore Control Geologist provides timely geological information that supports daily production decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Follow and promote First Majestic safety policies, values, and standards.
  • Lead daily ore control geology team and activities to ensure safe and efficient ore extraction.

  • Supervise grade control programs by monitoring ore loss and dilution through the mining process.
  • Conduct geological mapping, logging, sampling, and interpretation of production faces, blast holes, and underground headings.
  • Ensure ore control and grade control programs comply with applicable environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Manage ore control drilling ensuring coverage for the next 12 months of mining.
  • Manage and optimize ore control drilling sampling programs.
  • Validate sampling quality, data integrity, and laboratory turnaround times.
  • Maintain QA/QC standards for sampling, logging, and database management.
  • Ensure production geological databases remain accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Identify geological structures, mineralization, alteration, and lithological boundaries that may impact mining operations.
  • Interpret assay results, mapping and logging to update geological models accordingly.
  • Responsible for updating short-term geological and block models and stockpile inventories.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation between short-range plans and actual production.
  • Investigate reconciliation variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support resource model validation through continuous production feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with Mine Planning, Geotech, Mine Operations, and Process teams to optimize production schedules.
  • Provide geological input into short-term and medium-term mine planning.
  • Identify geological risks and opportunities that may impact production.
  • Participate in daily production meetings and planning discussions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly geological and production reports.
  • Manage team performance and career development.

The above duties and responsibilities represent the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.
