Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Engineer to join a government-focused technology team on an onsite contract in Fort Meade, MD. The role focuses on developing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting enterprise-grade Oracle database applications and critical data feeds.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in Oracle DB, deep SQL/PLSQL skills, and strong production support experience in secure environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience developing and supporting Oracle Database solutions.
• Advanced expertise in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including packages, procedures, functions, triggers, views, and bulk processing.
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging SQL/PL-SQL in production environments.
• Experience analyzing database code to identify defects and optimize performance.
• Strong experience with data integrations, APIs, file transfers, ETL workflows and enterprise data feeds.
• Experience with Apache NiFi, AWS services, and service-based integrations.
• Knowledge of Oracle performance tuning, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and optimizer behavior.
• Familiarity with RAC, RMAN backup/recovery, Data Guard, security, auditing, and production support procedures.
• Active CompTIA Security+ Certification is required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
• Ability to collaborate with developers, DBAs, analysts, infra teams, and application owners.
• Experience with Exadata, Database Vault, Label Security and large-scale data migration is highly preferred.
• TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) is required.

Responsibilities

• Debug and resolve complex SQL, PL/SQL, data-processing and production issues across environments.
• Review, rewrite and optimize existing SQL/PL/SQL code for performance and scalability.
• Develop ad hoc queries and scripts for investigations, reporting and data validation.
• Develop and maintain PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, triggers and batch jobs.
• Monitor and maintain data feeds and integrations involving Oracle databases, NiFi, AWS, APIs and files.
• Investigate failed data flows and coordinate resolution with multiple teams.
• Perform SQL/PL/SQL performance tuning using execution plans and optimizer tools.
• Support database deployments, releases, incident response and post-deployment validation.
• Collaborate with Oracle DBAs on RAC, Data Guard, security and recovery initiatives.
• Create technical documentation, deployment procedures and runbooks.

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Engineer to join a growing government-focused technology team for an onsite contract opportunity in Fort Meade, MD. The Senior Oracle Database Engineer will be responsible for developing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting enterprise-scale Oracle database applications while maintaining critical data feeds, integrations, and production environments. This role requires a highly technical contributor with deep expertise in Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, performance tuning, and production support within secure enterprise environments.

Responsibilities of the Senior Oracle Database Engineer include:

• Debug and resolve complex SQL, PL/SQL, data-processing, and production issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Review, rewrite, refactor, and optimize existing SQL and PL/SQL code to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Develop ad hoc queries and scripts to support investigations, reporting, data validation, reconciliation, and operational requests.
• Develop and maintain PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, triggers, batch jobs, and database interfaces.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain data feeds and integrations involving Oracle databases, Apache NiFi, AWS services, APIs, files, and connected applications.
• Investigate failed or incomplete data flows, identify root causes, and coordinate resolution across application, infrastructure, database, and integration teams.
• Perform SQL and PL/SQL performance tuning using execution plans, indexing strategies, partitioning, optimizer statistics, and Oracle performance tools.
• Support database deployments, production releases, incident response activities, and post-deployment validation efforts.
• Partner with Oracle DBAs on RAC, Data Guard, security, recovery, performance, and environment-related initiatives.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks.

Qualifications for the Senior Oracle Database Engineer include:

• 7+ years of experience developing and supporting enterprise solutions using Oracle Database.
• Advanced expertise in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL, including packages, procedures, functions, triggers, views, materialized views, dynamic SQL, collections, exception handling, and bulk processing.
• Extensive experience troubleshooting and debugging SQL and PL/SQL applications in production environments.
• Experience analyzing existing database code, identifying defects, and optimizing database performance.
• Strong experience supporting data integrations, APIs, file transfers, batch processing, ETL workflows, and enterprise data feeds.
• Experience with Apache NiFi, AWS services, and service-based integrations.
• Strong understanding of Oracle performance tuning, execution-plan analysis, indexing, partitioning, locking, concurrency, and optimizer behavior.
• Experience utilizing Oracle performance and diagnostic tools including AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Trace, TKPROF, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
• Working knowledge of Oracle RAC, RMAN backup and recovery, Data Guard, database security, auditing, and production support procedures.
• Active CompTIA Security+ Certification required.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with developers, DBAs, business analysts, infrastructure teams, application owners, and integration partners.
• Experience with Oracle Exadata, Database Vault, Label Security, and large-scale data migration is highly preferred.
• TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) required.

Compensation for the Senior Oracle Database Engineer:

• Salary Range: $120,000 - $220,000/year
