The role emphasizes performance tuning, capacity planning, and automation, with cloud and on-prem options, and a strong mentoring component.
You will shape multi-year roadmaps, review major changes with engineering, and lead on-call incident analysis while coordinating with a managed services provider.
- Define database architecture standards and guide technical decisions across products and platforms.
- Own the multi-year roadmap for database capacity, technical debt, and modernization.
- Evaluate database technologies and cloud services based on reliability, scalability, security, and cost.
- Provide senior technical ownership and escalation support for production and non-production Oracle environments.
- Lead performance tuning, SQL optimization, query analysis, capacity planning, and complex troubleshooting.
- Improve monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery practices.

- Establish practical standards for database architecture, design, SQL development, documentation, and operations.
- Review major schema changes, migrations, procedural objects, and database designs in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Develop modernization strategies for the existing Oracle environment, evaluating Oracle on AWS, cloud-native services, and alternative database platforms.
- Automate database administration, deployment, monitoring, testing, and maintenance to reduce manual work and operational complexity.
- Mentor engineers on relational database design, SQL performance, and database best practices; create reusable documentation, training, and technical patterns.
- Strengthen internal database capabilities and coordinate responsibilities, knowledge sharing, and escalation procedures with the managed services provider.
- Support data pipelines, client conversions, migrations, and major product initiatives, helping teams deliver secure and efficient data movement.

- Knowledge of database security, auditing, access management, and compliance-oriented environments such as PCI.
- Ability to diagnose complex performance and reliability issues across applications and database infrastructure.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, prioritization, and mentoring skills, with the ability to make technical risks and recommendations clear to different stakeholders.
- A proactive, ownership-oriented approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement, automation, and knowledge sharing.
- Pragmatism when modernizing mature systems, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term architectural improvements.
Preferred qualifications:
