Corning is seeking a Senior Scientist - Optics to drive innovation in optical, photonic, and opto-mechanical technologies through the design, development, and characterization of advanced components and systems. You will advance early-stage invention from prototype through validation across markets, blending optics, modeling, and materials expertise.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, define requirements and metrics, analyze data, and contribute to IP and technical publications

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or related discipline; or M.S. with 3+ years industrial experience.
• Hands-on experience with optical systems, imaging hardware, and optical test/measurement systems.
• Strong ownership with ability to deliver results with minimal supervision.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.
• Strong data analysis, technical writing, and presentation skills; proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies beyond current skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and in high-performance cross-functional teams.
• Effective communication for technical and business audiences.

Responsabilités

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and use optical modeling/experiments to develop next-gen technologies for telecom, data centers, solar, and displays.
• Define technical requirements, metrics, and validation protocols for optical solutions.
• Apply analytical methods to develop understanding and solve problems; perform root-cause analysis.
• Lead or contribute to technical projects, mentoring scientists and engineers.
• Document and present technical work to internal/external audiences; contribute to IP.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, tools, and industry practices.
• Occasional travel for collaboration, benchmarking, or conferences.
