Job summary

Muon Space in Mountain View, CA seeks a Senior Optical Test Engineer to lead hands-on testing of infrared remote sensing instruments, ranging from precision optical metrology to environmental qualification.

You will drive test campaigns, develop ground support equipment, and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, onsite role that requires five days per week in the Mountain View office. Strong experience with imaging systems and data analysis is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 3+ years in imaging systems or remote sensing, or MS with 6+ years, or BS with 8+ years in industry.
• Proficiency in Python or C++.
• Experience with precision optical/metrology equipment.
• Experience with root cause analysis, data post-processing, and test reporting.
• Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment with weekly challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead test efforts for optical, optomechanical, and moving mechanism subsystems, including test strategy, procedures, execution, and reporting.
• Perform functional, performance, and environmental testing (vibration, TVAC, thermal) at subsystem and instrument levels.
• Develop and operate GSE and testbeds for characterization, calibration, and system check-outs.
• Drive continuous improvement of testing methodologies and tools to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with subsystem engineers, instrument teams, and production groups to align testing activities.
