Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. seeks a Senior Optical Test Engineer to join our Mountain View, CA team, developing infrared remote sensing instruments.

You will lead hands-on testing, characterization, and environmental qualification of optical, optomechanical, and moving mechanism subsystems. The role requires driving test campaigns, developing ground support equipment, and integrating complex electro-optical systems in a fast-paced, small-team environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 3+ years in imaging systems or remote sensing, or M.S. with 6+ years, or B.S. with 8+ years in relevant industry.
• Basic software skills in Python and/or C++.
• Experience with precision optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
• Experience with root cause analysis, data post-processing, and test report generation.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
• Motivated to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges weekly.

Responsibilities

• Drive test efforts for optical, optomechanical, and moving mechanism subsystems including test strategy, procedures, execution, and reporting.
• Perform functional, performance, and environmental testing (vibration, TVAC, thermal stress) at subsystem and instrument levels.
• Develop and operate GSE and testbeds for instrument-level characterization and spacecraft integration.
• Improve testing methodologies, tools, and practices to boost efficiency and reliability.
• Collaborate with subsystem engineers, instrument/spacecraft teams, AI&T and production, and program managers.
