Job summary

Leonardo DRS, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead sourcing, procurement, and supplier management for optics, optical assemblies, and precision components.

Strong negotiation skills and experience with complex suppliers, optical materials, coatings, lenses, sensors, and related manufacturing processes are required. The role involves ensuring FAR/DFARS/ITAR compliance, managing RFQs/RFPs/POs, and collaborating across engineering, quality, contracts, and legal to meet program

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5 years DFAR/FAR purchasing in aerospace/defense.
• 5+ years procurement or supply chain experience in aerospace/defense.
• Strong FAR/DFARS, ITAR knowledge.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems.
• Proven negotiation, contract management, and issue resolution.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship required due to government contracts.

Responsibilities

• Purchase optical components and assemblies with direct supplier management.
• Execute RFQs, RFPs, and POs for high-value, complex parts.
• Analyze MRP/ERP demand; evaluate quotes for cost and delivery.
• Negotiate with suppliers; conduct cost/price analyses.
• Develop strong supplier relationships for strategic sourcing.
• Monitor supplier performance and initiate corrective actions.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, contracts, and legal.
• Support risk assessments and improvement plans.
• Assist audits and ensure compliant procurement documentation.
• Lead process improvements to reduce cycle times.
• Input procurement data into ERP systems (SAP, Oracle).
• Maintain records per internal procedures and regulations.
