Job summary

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) in Albuquerque, NM seeks an Experienced or Senior Optical Engineer (Level 3 or 4) to join the Starfire Optical Range team at Kirtland AFB. The role focuses on optical design, integration, and field testing of advanced imaging systems for Space Domain Awareness.

The position is 100% onsite at Starfire Optical Range with collaboration across multi-disciplined engineering teams, offering opportunities to work with state-of-the-art adaptive optics and

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or US-equivalent related field required.
• 4+ years of optical design experience.
• 4+ years’ experience with Zemax, Code V, or OSLO.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, fabrication, and integration of high-precision optical systems to translate concepts into experimental hardware.
• Establish and validate technical specifications to meet performance standards.
• Perform trade studies and simulations to optimize system performance.
• Resolve complex optical challenges through analysis and innovative engineering.
• Support project management with work statements, budgets, schedules, and status reporting.
• Contribute to proposal writing to support new business.
