Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico is seeking an Optical Engineer to provide advanced technical support in the development and realization of space-based optical sensors, focusing on optical design, fabrication, and assembly.

The role involves designing complex optical hardware, performing calculations, using Zemax/Code V/OSLO, and ensuring ES&H compliance. Onsite work is required in New Mexico.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience or equivalent
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and detailed designs of optical hardware for optical system applications
• Identify and analyze complex optical problems and provide solutions
• Perform technical calculations and analyze cost, schedule, and materials
• Independently design, fabricate and assemble complex optical hardware
• Use optical design software to produce supportive documentation
• Align with ES&H regulations and procedures; work onsite as required
