Job summary

Trident Consulting is seeking a Senior Optical Engineer for one of our clients in Burlington, MA (Onsite). The role focuses on optical and optomechanical design, imaging systems, light delivery, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing handoff within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include leading the second prototype build, designing optical subsystems, machine vision, Zemax and SolidWorks work, and ensuring compliance with medical device design controls and ISO 13485.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM field.
• At least 5 years of optical engineering or photonics experience in medical devices.
• Proven ability from concept to manufacturing handoff.
• Proficiency with Zemax and SolidWorks.
• Experience with optical subsystems, tooling, and fixtures.
• Familiarity with FDA QSR and ISO 13485.

Responsibilities

• Lead optical engineering for the second prototype build.
• Design optical and optomechanical systems through manufacturing handoff.
• Develop machine vision and light delivery systems.
• Perform Zemax-based optical design and SolidWorks CAD.
• Create verification and validation protocols.
• Produce documentation and testing procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
