Job summary

Attalon in Traverse City, MI is seeking an Optical Engineer IV to design and analyze high-performance laser and optical assemblies. You will plan compliant preliminary and final optical designs, coordinate with mechanical engineering, and ensure 100% on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, or related discipline.
• 7–10 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated success in bringing engineering concepts into production.
• History of analysis and successful resolution of complex engineering issues.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others.

Responsibilities

• Measurement and modeling of high-power laser beams and their optical systems, free-space and fiber-coupled.
• Design and modeling of high-power fiber systems, laser diodes and related systems.
• Laboratory work and theoretical modeling with an emphasis on validated measurements.
• Guidance on optical alignment techniques, tools, and metrology.
• Leads trade studies and engineering analyses for optical alignment and testing.
• Strong oral and written communication adaptable to varied audiences.
• Infrequent travel to other Attalon facilities in the continental US.
