Job summary

Seagate Technology on its Normandale campus seeks an Optical Design Senior Engineer to drive HAMR head innovations and integrate photonic solutions from design to test. You will invent concepts to improve performance and reliability of NFT-based optics.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, evaluate design/process tradeoffs, and develop novel test methodologies, using tools like COMSOL, Lumerical, and FDTD to push cutting-edge data storage technology.

Qualifications

Experience with near-field optics, plasmonic and waveguide optics.
Expertise in integrated optical component design and analysis.
Experience with optical modeling tools (COMSOL, Lumerical, RSoft, FDTD).
Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience or master's degree with 3+ years or PhD with 0+ years.

Responsibilities

Identify and invent concepts to improve HAMR recording head performance.
Optimize NFT designs to improve performance and reliability.
Collaborate with wafer process and design teams to translate ideas into devices.
Characterize new devices using standard tests and develop novel test methods.
Communicate new understanding to product, wafer processing and test teams.
