Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking an Operational Health Physicist to provide expert radiation protection for assigned areas. You will support health physics programs, regulatory compliance, and safety design for high-hazard activities at Berkeley Lab.

The role requires a strong background in radiation protection, ALARA principles, and experience with regulatory requirements across federal, state, and local levels.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Physics, Radiological Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 7–10 years of experience; or advanced degree with fewer years.
• Broad knowledge of Federal, state and local regulatory requirements for management of radioactive materials and radiation generating devices.
• Ability to identify and solve difficult technical or regulatory problems in assigned areas of responsibility.
• Experience with accelerator facilities and health physics in research settings.

Responsabilités

• Lead planning and execution of high hazard radiological work, applying best radiation practices to guide work safely.
• Analyze and recommend radiological safety engineering and ALARA concepts for safe workplaces.
• Perform radiological hazard and ALARA reviews; oversee design of radiation shielding and safety controls.
• Respond to on-site radiological emergencies as SME and report incidents with recommended solutions.
• Review experiments and activities to ensure compliance with radiation protection policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain documentation for RPG programs and regulatory compliance.
