Job summary

WGU in Salt Lake City is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to build and optimize online courses within our competency-based education model. You will lead development efforts, ensure alignment of outcomes, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-impact learning experiences.

The role requires a portfolio, a Bachelor's degree, and 3+ years in online course design, plus proficiency in HTML/CSS/JS and LMS tools. This is a full-time, in-office position with strong growth and benefits.

Qualifications

Portfolio or samples of relevant work must be submitted at the time of application.
Bachelor's degree required; three or more years of online university course design experience.
Experience with online learning technologies and pedagogies.
HTML coding skills with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and Azure.
Background in learner experience design and ADA/UDL compliance.
Experience with Agile development and LMS systems such as Blackboard/Canvas.

Responsibilities

Manages the build process for new courses and learning experiences; ensures continuous improvement.
Leads online learning development to deliver research-backed, high-quality courses.
Drives alignment of learning outcomes, content, and assessment across platforms.
Collaborates with project managers to meet deadlines during design and development.
Performs quality assurance reviews and implements revisions to courses.
