Westinghouse Electric Company LLC is seeking a Senior Nuclear Engineer - Safety Analysis to support calculations and validation experiments for nuclear safety performance across power plants and waste treatment. The role includes thermal-hydraulic modeling, radiological source term analysis, and developing software in C++, Fortran, and Python.

The position reports to the Manager of Experimental & Accident Modeling / Safety Analysis, Risk Applications, and Licensing.

Qualifications

• BS Engineering (Nuclear, Chemical or Mechanical) required.
• Minimum 6+ years of applicable experience in nuclear safety analysis or related field.
• Proficiency in thermodynamics, transport phenomena, kinetics and multi-phase flow modeling; experience with MAAP/RELAP/PRA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety calculations for nuclear power plants and related facilities.
• Support thermal-hydraulic analysis for system performance and related phenomena.
• Develop software components in C++, Fortran, and Python; contribute to documentation and evaluation reports.
• Verify first-of-a-kind evaluations and ensure rigorous safety analyses.

About the role:

As a Senior Nuclear Engineer - Safety Analysis with Westinghouse Fauske & Associates, Inc. (FAI), you will support calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment and severe accident modeling. Severe accident modeling will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer radiological source term.

You will report to the Manager of Experimental & Accident Modeling / Safety Analysis, Risk Applications, and Licensing. You will work hybrid 2 days per week on-site at our office in Bur Ridge, IL .

While this role is based in Bur Ridge, we recognize that exceptional talent can come from anywhere. For highly qualified candidates, we are open to considering either remote work arrangements or relocation support, depending on individual circumstances and business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment and severe accident modeling. Severe accident modeling will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer radiological source term.
• Support thermal hydraulic analysis for system performance, water hammer, and other thermal hydraulic phenomena.
• Support software development and implement mathematical models into a C++ codebase, Fortran, and Python
• Prepare documentation for evaluations
• Verify first of a kind evaluations

Qualifications:

• BS Engineering (Nuclear, Chemical or Mechanical)
• Minimum 6 plus years of applicable experience
• Mathematical and modeling such as:
  • Thermodynamics
  • Transport phenomena (momentum, heat, and mass)
  • Kinetics
  • Multi-phase flow modeling
• Beneficial:
  • Modular Accident Analysis Program (MAAP)
  • RELAP

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
