Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Senior Nuclear Engineer - Safety Analysis to support calculations and validation experiments for nuclear safety performance, including severe accident modeling and thermal-hydraulics.

The role reports to the Manager of Experimental & Accident Modeling / Safety Analysis, Risk Applications, and Licensing. Hybrid work model with on-site days in Bur Ridge, IL, and possibility of remote or relocation considerations.

Qualifications

• BS Engineering (Nuclear, Chemical or Mechanical) required.
• Minimum 6+ years of applicable experience.
• Strong background in thermodynamics, transport phenomena, kinetics and multi-phase flow modeling.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations and support validation experiments for nuclear safety analyses.
• Support thermal hydraulic analyses for system performance, water hammer, etc.
• Develop software and implement models in C++, Fortran and Python.
• Prepare documentation for evaluations.
• Verify first of a kind evaluations.

About the role

As a Senior Nuclear Engineer - Safety Analysis with Westinghouse Fauske & Associates, Inc. (FAI), you will support calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment and severe accident modeling. Severe accident modeling will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer radiological source term.

You will report to the Manager of Experimental & Accident Modeling / Safety Analysis, Risk Applications, and Licensing. You will work hybrid 2 days per week on-site at our office in Bur Ridge, IL.

Location Flexibility

While this role is based in Bur Ridge, we recognize that exceptional talent can come from anywhere. For highly qualified candidates, we are open to considering either remote work arrangements or relocation support, depending on individual circumstances and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform calculations and support validation experiments to maintain nuclear safety performance engineering calculations and assessments for nuclear power plants, waste treatment and severe accident modeling. Severe accident modeling will include thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis, heat and mass transfer radiological source term.
• Support thermal hydraulic analysis for system performance, water hammer, and other thermal hydraulic phenomena.
• Support software development and implement mathematical models into a C++ codebase, Fortran, and Python.
• Prepare documentation for evaluations.
• Verify first of a kind evaluations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 plus years of applicable experience
• Mathematical and modeling such as:

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
