Job summary

University of California, Irvine Health is seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform a full range of in vivo and in vitro Nuclear Medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals, while ensuring quality patient care through timely throughput and accurate imaging on a PET/CT platform.

The role requires operation and quality control of gamma cameras and related equipment, administration of CT contrast media, and development of study protocols under supervision.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program.
• Associates or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
• Current CRT/CTNM/ARRT and ARRT(N) or NMTCB certification.
• Current BLS certification.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Perform full range of in vivo and in vitro Nuclear Medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals and related substances.
• Operate and perform QC on stationary and portable scintillation equipment (gamma cameras, Geiger counters, well counters, dose calibration devices).
• Perform PET, Nuc Med, and CT diagnostic studies on PET/CT scanner, including CT contrast media administration and image acquisition.
• Create and program study-specific protocols including administration, imaging and reformatting under supervision.
• Requirements include on-call and rotating shifts.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor, incumbent is responsible for the performance of the full range of in vivo and in vitro Nuclear Medicine procedures utilizing radiopharmaceuticals and related chemical substances. Responsible for the provision of quality patient care, including the timely throughput of patients and the performance of their exams. Operates and performs quality control of stationary and portable scintillation equipment including, gamma cameras, Geiger-Mueller counters, well counters, dose calibration devices and ancillary equipment. Performs PET, Nuc Med, and CT diagnostic studies on PET/CT scanner, including injection of CT Contrast Media, image acquisition and reformatting. The incumbent is responsible for performing necessary scans and procedures to aid in scanner qualification for research trials. Creates and programs study specific protocols including administration, imaging and reformatting under the direction of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and Medical Director. Requirements include working On-Call and working.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

• Proficient computer skills
• Must work on-call and rotational shifts as needed
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT
• Knowledge of State regulatory radiation safety practices and the principles of ALARA
• Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Current and active CRT, CTNM, ARRT and ARRT(N) or NMTCB; or current and active CTNM, ARRT(CT) and ARRT(N) or NMTCB
• Current BLS certification
• Ability to train, monitor and maintain compliance in the department
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

• Scientific/Clinical Research experience
• SPECT/CT experience
• Multi-lingual skills to facilitate effective patient communication
• Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
• Diagnostic CT with injection of CT contrast media experience
• Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in related field
