Job summary

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is seeking a Senior Buyer for NPI Sourcing in Finance to procure materials and equipment for new product introductions.

You will gather quotations, assess supplier capabilities, track orders, and ensure adequate supply for production ramp-up in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing. You will establish material requirements from engineering, evaluate supplier reliability, and develop new supply sources as needed while supporting project schedules and cost models.

Qualifications

• 10–12 years of experience in supply chain management with specific expertise in new product introduction (NPI), R&D and/or engineering environments.
• BS in business, mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent education/experience.
• Significant computer experience using Windows, Word, Excel (advanced) and ERP systems, preferably SAP and Agile.
• MS Office skills (MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excel (VLookups, Pivot Tables, Charts, and filtering).
• Experience working with engineers and manufacturing resources for prototype parts procurement, pilot activities and production launch of new products.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and manage change quickly.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes used by suppliers (machining, sheet metal, plastics).
• Familiar with project management techniques for NPI and ECO implementation.

Responsibilities

• Uses forecasts and planning techniques to maintain optimal inventory for engineering and production ramp-up.
• Applies extensive NPI/R&D purchasing experience to minimize material run times and ensure on-time delivery for NPI schedules.
• Works with engineering to help suppliers develop efficient fabrication processes.
• Identifies second sources for critical components as needed.
• Participates in continuous improvement of current systems and processes.
• Identifies and qualifies new supplier resources with Strategic Sourcing.
• Addresses supplier capacity issues to avoid impact on schedules.
• Creates and updates project material cost models.
• Resolves delivery, supplier performance, quality or cost issues promptly.
• Ensures accuracy of reports, POs, item master data, BOMs with engineering and production control.
