Ingersoll Rand in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Senior NPD Engineer to own centrifugal compressor design from concept through launch. You will lead 3D modeling, BOM development, and design documentation, collaborating with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Service to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

The role translates customer and market requirements into validated designs, conducts tolerance analysis, and supports pre‑production testing.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of related design or product development experience.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical design, machine design, mechanics of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Design ownership: Independently develop and release mechanical designs for centrifugal compressor systems and components, including 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and design documentation.
  • Product development leadership: Translate product requirements into practical designs and drive decisions to closure with cross-functional teams.
  • Technical accountability: Manage design definition, tolerance analysis, manufacturability, serviceability, and documentation for new or improved products.
  • Customer interaction: Serve as a technical contact for internal and external customers, communicating design intent and project status clearly.
  • Product validation: Build centrifugal compressor prototypes for pre-production testing and incorporate lessons learned into the design.
  • Travel: Travel up to 5% (including international).

Job Overview

Ingersoll Rand is seeking an experienced NPD Engineer who can thrive inside an interactive and dynamic team where safety, quality, creativity, and continuous improvement are paramount. This role is for a seasoned engineer capable of independently owning complex design deliverables from concept through launch with minimal supervision. The experienced NPD Engineer leads detailed mechanical design, design verification, launch support, and continuous improvement of centrifugal compressor products. Principal responsibilities include translating customer, market, and product requirements into robust mechanical designs, driving engineering definition through CAD/PLM systems, and resolving complex technical problems while collaborating across Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Tendering, and Service teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design ownership: Independently develop and release mechanical designs for centrifugal compressor systems and components, including 3D models, drawings, bills of material, and design documentation.
  • Product development leadership: Own the translation of product requirements into practical, validated design solutions, working directly with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Service teams and driving decisions to closure.
  • Technical accountability: Take responsibility for mechanical design definition, tolerance analysis, manufacturability, serviceability, and design documentation for new or improved products, applying engineering judgment to trade-offs.
  • Customer interaction: Serve as a technical point of contact for internal and external customers, effectively communicating design intent, technical constraints, trade-offs, and project status to audiences with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Product validation: Build centrifugal compressor prototypes to be used for pre-production testing and verification, implementing any lessons learned during the build into the design.
  • Travel: Ability to travel, including internationally, up to 5%.
Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of related design or product development experience with a strong foundation in mechanical design, machine design, mechanics of materials, manufacturing processes, and/or engineering fundamentals, with a proven track record of delivering released designs.
Preferences
  • Demonstrated experience with centrifugal compressor components, pressure-containing equipment, rotating equipment, or packaged equipment design is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis, tolerance analysis, design automation, and/or computer programming is a plus.
  • Hands-on proficiency with CAD and PLM systems (NX and Teamcenter) is strongly preferred.

  • Strong command of the English language and the ability to clearly communicate in writing and speech with peers, leadership, and internal/external customers.

  • Ability to work collaboratively while independently owning significant deliverables and reliably managing stress, change, and pressure with professionalism.
  • Ability to perform critical mental tasks such as decision-making, prioritizing, organizing, and exercising sound judgment to align work with business objectives.
Travel & Work Arrangements / Requirements
  • The location for this position is Buffalo, NY. 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.
Pay Range

The pay range for this role is $85,000-$95,000.The pay range considers a wide range of factors that include a candidate’s skills; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and geographic location.
