Job summary

603 Legal Aid (603 LA) seeks a Controller to lead accounting and grants operations, ensuring fiscal integrity and GAAP compliance. You will oversee staff, prepare annual budgets, generate financial reports, and liaise with donors and funders.

Under the Executive Director, you will implement fiscal policies, coordinate audits, and advance nonprofit financial stewardship and resource optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; 3–5 years’ work experience in Uniform Grants Environment preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 45 CFR 200 Cost Principles for Federal Awards.
• Deep knowledge of Cost Allocation Principles, GAAP, grant budgeting and reporting.
• Non-profit experience preferred; leadership experience supervising staff.
• Ability to develop and implement management methods to improve resources and service delivery.
• Experience with grant writing, reporting and fundraising is highly valued.
• Excellent written and oral communication with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of the annual budget and provide diverse financial reports to Executive Director, Board, donors, and funders.
• Oversee accounting and grants staff; review work and ensure timely processing of accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reporting.
• Coordinate with auditors and lead annual Single Audit; manage 990 tax return preparation.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and grant requirements; establish internal controls and segregation of duties.
