Job summary

Housing Assistance Corporation is seeking an experienced Controller to lead HAC’s accounting and financial reporting across HAC and affiliated entities. The role reports to the Chief of Staff - Finance and steers accounting operations, internal controls, audits, and regulatory compliance to sustain mission-focused work.

The successful candidate will manage a high-performing accounting team, oversee the close process, and deliver timely financial information for decision-making and lender/funder

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7–10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience including financial reporting, audit management, and GL oversight.
• 3+ years of supervision or management experience leading an accounting team.
• Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Experience preparing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Experience developing and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all accounting functions including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, cash management, and financial reporting.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff; set priorities and conduct performance evaluations.
• Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance team.
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes, systems, and workflows for efficiency.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close; ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and schedules for leaders, board, and regulators.
• Analyze financial results and variances; provide recommendations to management.
