Job summary

The Colorectal Cancer Alliance in Washington, DC is looking for a Director of Accounting to lead the accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance within the Finance and Operations team. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Vice President of Finance and Operations and supports strategic decision-making through robust financial analysis and reporting.

You will manage the close process, grant accounting, and donor reporting while strengthening internal controls and mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Experience leading audits, managing month-end and year-end close processes, and developing accounting policies.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including close processes and general ledger management.
• Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and schedules with GAAP compliance.
• Oversee grant accounting, restricted funds, and donor-related reporting.
• Partner with VP on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision support.
• Lead annual financial statement audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Strengthen internal controls and drive policy/process improvements.
• Develop accounting staff and ensure scalable, efficient processes.
