Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Underwriter within the Commercial Truck Team to support our non-fleet segment. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of risk assessment experience related to multi-line underwriting, including truck (local, intermediate, & long-haul for-hire motor).

The title and salary will reflect the selected candidate's experience and knowledge. We will consider candidates with more or less experience.

This role offers a hybrid schedule from our Raleigh, NC, or Alpharetta, GA, locations, working in-office Monday through Wednesday, with remote work options on Thursday and Friday. Occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate, assess, price, and recommend handling of accounts beyond the agent’s granted authority, collaborating to obtain approval when necessary.
2. Manage and analyze the book of new and renewal business, making recommendations on pricing, coverage, cancellations, non-renewals, etc., to maximize profitability.
3. Travel as needed to evaluate submission flow, account acceptability, and ensure profitability with assigned agents.
4. Maintain open communication with agency partners through calls, correspondence, and meetings.
5. Build effective relationships with agency personnel and internal staff.
6. Drive new business opportunities through marketing efforts.
7. Communicate company policies and information clearly to agents.
8. Perform other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Must Have:

• Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience in commercial insurance.
• Equivalent experience is nine years or more.
• Experience managing agents in a territory.
• Knowledge of transportation/Class A trucking insurance industry.
• Ability to creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance.
• Strong math skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with computer programs, internet-based tools, and spreadsheets.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship.

Preferred:

• CPCU, ARM, or AU designations.
• INS21, 22, and 23 or equivalents.
