Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Senior Underwriter within the Commercial Truck Team to support our non-fleet segment. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of risk assessment experience related to multi-line underwriting, including truck (local, intermediate, & long-haul for-hire motor).

The title and salary will reflect the selected candidate's experience and knowledge. We will consider candidates with more or slightly less experience.

This role offers a hybrid schedule from our Raleigh, NC, location, working in-office Monday through Wednesday, with remote work options Thursday and Friday. Occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, assess, price, and recommend handling of accounts beyond the agent's granted authority, collaborating to obtain approval when necessary.
  • Manage and analyze new and renewal business, making recommendations on pricing, coverage, cancellations, and non-renewals to maximize profitability. Interpret loss trends, analyze financial data, and prepare industry reports.
  • Travel as needed to work with agents, evaluate submissions, and ensure profitability.
  • Maintain open communication with agency partners through calls, correspondence, and meetings.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and build effective relationships with agency personnel and internal staff.
  • Drive new business opportunities through effective marketing.
  • Communicate company strategies clearly to agents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience in commercial insurance, or nine years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing agents within a territory.
  • Knowledge of the transportation/class A trucking insurance industry.
  • Ability to creatively utilize coverage features, deductibles, or reinsurance to meet company goals.
  • Strong math skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with computer programs, internet-based tools, and spreadsheets.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without future VISA sponsorship.
Preferred to Have:
  • CPCU, ARM, or AU designations.
  • INS21, 22, and 23 or equivalent certifications.
