Job summary

Qualifications

• Capable of performing hands-on installation of designed components.

Overview

Responsibilities

• Complete complex 2‑ and 3‑D CAD design assignments, including modeling parts and assemblies, creating detail and layout drawings from written or verbal instructions.
• Coordinate and consult with staff to design, layout, detail components and systems, and resolve design problems.
• Host and actively participate in team design reviews to improve quality and functionality.
• Produce and maintain working drawings, detail drawings, bills of material, and procurement documentation; answer vendor questions as needed.
• Perform quality‑and‑quantity checks on completed products.
• Test, inspect, assemble, and install final parts and assemblies, providing direction to technicians.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously while remaining flexible and adaptable.
• Communicate effectively with engineering, physics/science, project management, and procurement groups.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in a mechanical design role using 3‑D modeling.
• Ability to generate detailed mechanical and electro‑mechanical design solutions, drawings for mechanical and electrical systems, using SolidWorks (newer versions preferred) or CATIA.
• Basic working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (ASME Y14.5M).
• Experience with DFMA (design for manufacturing assembly).
• Capable of performing hands‑on installation of designed components on projects.
• Experience with precision measuring instruments.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or CATIA and PDM.
• International travel: 10% of the time (not required).
• Experience with large assemblies and machine shops is nice to have.
• Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and/or 5+ years experience (required); M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).

Compensation

Compensation range: $115,000–$140,000, with possible additional components such as performance rewards, equity participation, and other benefits.
