Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Neuroengineering Developer to lead the design, development, and deployment of computational tools for large-scale neuroscience datasets, including connectomes, across species and imaging modalities.

You will build cloud-scale pipelines and analytics infrastructure, deploy production software on cloud and HPC resources, and communicate findings to sponsors and colleagues, supporting APL's mission.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in CS/CE/DS/AI/Neuroscience/Biomedical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of software or computational methods experience with large-scale neuroscience data.
• Experience deploying production software using cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), databases (SQL/NoSQL), RESTful APIs, and modern software practices.
• Experience with collaborative software engineering practices including Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and code review.
• Excellent research and oral communication skills; ability to work with diverse collaborators.
• Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and maintenance of computational pipelines and cloud-based environments for interrogating large-scale neuroscience datasets.
• Develop, maintain, and extend software infrastructure for cloud-scale storage, visualization, and analysis on petabyte-scale data.
• Architect scalable systems supporting automated data processing, visualization, and analysis on HPC resources.
• Communicate findings internally and to sponsors; contribute to research proposals.
• Engage with the neuroscience and APL community; present data at lab meetings and department management.
• Collaborate on innovation opportunities to advance APL's mission.
