Job summary

The Office of Statewide Pretrial Services (OSPS) is seeking a Sr. Network Security Engineer to join the Springfield, IL on-site team and protect the agency’s data and network from cyber threats.

You will deploy and manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and security patches; perform vulnerability scans and tests; and maintain security documentation, DR/BC plans, and enterprise architecture with professional judgment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, MIS, CS or related field.
• Four years of progressively responsible experience in a public or private organization.
• Two years of hands-on experience in network security or related field.
• One+ years of cloud security experience and multi-cloud awareness.
• One+ years of experience with network monitoring tools and vulnerability scanning tools.
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License and safe driving record to operate state business vehicle.
• Master’s degree preferred with eight years of experience in security roles.
• Certifications in security (e.g., CISSP, CEH, CCNA Security) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs, implements, and manages network security solutions (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
• Performs vulnerability scans and penetration tests to find and fix weaknesses.
• Monitors OSPS backups, storage, and space management.
• Maintains documentation on security architecture and incidents.
• Keeps up with latest security trends and applies best practices.
• Develops disaster recovery and business continuity plans for network security.
• Installs and maintains servers, networking gear, and secure operations.
• Configures high-density wired/wireless networks, including access points and switches.
• Manages connectivity: data circuits, DNS, IP networks, and related equipment.
• Provides technical support and guidance; participates in on-call rotations; travel to OSPS sites as needed.
