Job summary

AEP is seeking an experienced network engineer to support the operational network infrastructure for critical facilities in the United States. The role emphasizes incident response, vulnerability remediation, and lifecycle refresh to ensure compliance with NERC CIP standards.

You will manage routers, switches, and firewalls in a regulated environment, participate in an on-call rotation, and collaborate with IT teams to maintain audit readiness and security controls.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years in network operations in a large enterprise or regulated environment.
• Strong troubleshooting across routing, switching, and firewall technologies.
• Experience supporting incidents, lifecycle upgrades, and vulnerability remediation programs.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network security best practices.
• Experience with network monitoring and logging tools (SolarWinds, Splunk).
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management).

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day support for network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls) in a regulated environment.
• Respond to and resolve network incidents, outages, and service degradation.
• Execute operational tasks and configuration changes in accordance with change management and NERC CIP requirements.
• Perform lifecycle refresh activities including hardware/software upgrades and replacements.
• Identify, track, and remediate network vulnerabilities in alignment with NERC CIP cybersecurity standards.
• Support firewall configuration and maintenance (Cisco ASA, FTD, Fortigate).
• Maintain documentation to support regulatory audits, evidence requests, and compliance reporting.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
